Nutrition During Pregnancy

In these days when you are beginning to experience the most beautiful and special feelings in the world, your diet is very important for you and your baby's health.

It should not be forgotten that the growth and development of the baby during pregnancy is the result of the nutrients taken by the mother being carried to the baby through the placenta. Because the baby meets all its energy and nutrient requirements from the mother's stores. Good nutrition is important for every stage of pregnancy. Too much calorie restriction or too little weight gain can lead to premature or miscarriage.

How much weight should you gain during pregnancy?

If the mother is underweight (BMI below 20), weight gain should not fall below 500 g per week during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Women with a BMI of 26 and above should gain 300 g per week.

What is the amount of nutrients you need during pregnancy?

First of all, pregnancy consists of 3 trimesters and each trimester is 3 months long. Your baby's development increases especially in the 2nd trimester, that is, in the 2nd trimester. Therefore, in the first 3 months, if your starting weight is high, there is no need to increase calories too much and not gaining weight is not a problem. However, engaging in behaviors that may cause weight loss or strictly limiting weight gain is not an appropriate behavior for pregnancy. To meet the increased needs in the second trimester, pregnant women need an additional 300 calories of energy per day.
